Does our choice of font matter? According to fourteen year old, Suvir Mirchandani it does! The teenager found and interesting way to reduce paper and ink, saving his school money as well as businesses. Through trial and error, tests, and measurement upon measurement, Mirchandani found that by switching from Times New Roman to Garamond, his school and any other company can save tons of money on printer ink each year. After his findings, he spoke to his school district, concluding that they could reduce their ink consumption by 24%, saving a whopping $21,000 a year. A large number for such a small change. His calculations didn’t stop there either! He estimates that if the federal government also switched fonts to Garamond, they could save 30%, resulting in $136 million each year, and if state governments commit as well, the country could save $234 million.
